UPPA is thought to be the oldest independent picture business in the UK, dating back to the early 1900’s, and is the photography business of record for royalty, politicians and the judiciary. There are now over one million photos in the digitised part of the CTK photo archive, and this number continues to grow. When FORUM was founded in 1994, there were no digital SLR cameras or mobile telephones available, internet speed was unbelievably slow, the standard computer had a RAM of 16MB, and the only way for photographers to submit their work was in person. We did not know then that we were only a few years from a technological evolution. In just three years we had a set up a part of our picture archives and made them available on the web. Our archives were began by the scanning of a vast number of pictures and material. During this time a myriad of photographers joined the agency and as FORUM grew more agencies sought to work with us and sentt us their photographs. The picture files became heavier and our IT department costs grew extensively. Cuando se fundó FORUM en 1994, no había cámaras réflex digitales ni teléfonos móviles, la velocidad de Internet era increíblemente lenta, el ordenador estándar tenía una memoria RAM de 16 MB y la única forma de que los fotógrafos presentaran su trabajo era en persona. No sabíamos entonces que estábamos a pocos años de una evolución tecnológica. En tan sólo tres años hemos creado una parte de nuestros archivos fotográficos y los hemos puesto a disposición en la web. Nuestros archivos se iniciaron con el escaneo de un gran número de fotografías y material. Durante este tiempo, un gran número de fotógrafos se unió a la agencia y, a medida que FORUM crecía, más agencias querían trabajar con nosotros y enviarnos sus fotografías. Los archivos fotográficos se volvieron más pesados y los costes de nuestro departamento de informática aumentaron considerablemente.
In time, a History Department which develops new sources and stores old collections was formed in our agency. We co-operate with historians and collectors. We possess in our archives pictures from free lance photographers as well as museum collections. Every month, our historical collection increases by about 4000 new pictures. In addition to our extensive historical collection, we have created a celebrity picture portal which is updated daily, www.forumgwiazd.com.pl. It contains pictures with captions of the hottest news regarding popular local and International stars. Through our portal, we guarantee our clients up to date information on interviews with celebrities, the parties they attend and the film sets they grace. Con el tiempo, se formó en nuestra agencia un Departamento de Historia que desarrolla nuevas fuentes y almacena antiguas colecciones. Colaboramos con historiadores y coleccionistas.
